I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

About Huddersfield Town Foundation
The Huddersfield Town Foundation is the official charity of Huddersfield Town AFC, established in 2012 with a simple but powerful mission: to ensure that every child in Kirklees starts their day with the nutrition they need to learn, grow and succeed. What began with just five “Early Kick-Off” Breakfast Clubs has since evolved into one of the region’s most impactful community organisations. Today, the Foundation proudly delivers Breakfast Clubs across dozens of schools and has now served more than three million breakfasts, offering local children consistency, nourishment, and a positive start to their day.
We are guided by three core pillars - Grow, Thrive and Belong - which shape all our programmes and reflect the journey we want every individual in our community to experience. In 2024–25 alone, our work generated £13.1 million in social value, demonstrating the scale and depth of our impact across Kirklees. Through education, health, and community initiatives, we support people of all ages by helping children raise aspirations, empowering individuals to improve their physical and mental wellbeing, and creating safe, inclusive spaces where everyone feels supported and connected.
Rooted in the community, we use the power of football and strong local partnerships to create lasting change. From youth engagement and employability programmes to health initiatives and support for vulnerable groups, our work extends far beyond sport - strengthening families, building confidence, and fostering a sense of belonging. With the support of donors, partners and local fundraisers, we continue to expand our reach and make a meaningful difference where it matters most.
