Our client is an established environmental campaigning organisation working to protect the natural world and strengthen public participation in environmental and social change.
About the Role
The Community Organiser will work directly with local volunteer groups and community organisers to increase their strength, effectiveness and impact. Responsible for an allocated group of regions, the role will monitor and develop existing volunteer networks, create practical resources and support structures, and design regional strategies that build sustainable grassroots capacity.
Responsibilities
- Coach and develop local volunteer leaders, providing access to resources, guidance and best practice.
- Support local groups to become strategic, impactful, welcoming and focused on effective community outreach.
- Help groups develop local strategies that align with wider organisational campaigns and objectives while reflecting local priorities and the needs of affected communities.
- Build and strengthen groups in strategically important locations through regular on-the-ground engagement and hands-on coaching.
- Identify and develop new organising tactics and approaches that strengthen local participation and people-powered campaigning.
- Create volunteer teams, peer-support structures, in-person network gatherings and online spaces that enable effective support at scale.
- Monitor the health, inclusivity and impact of local groups and tailor support according to their development needs.
- Track and report progress against agreed participation, development and campaign-impact objectives.
- Identify strategic campaign opportunities and respond to both long-term priorities and emerging tactical opportunities.
- Recruit, organise, train and support volunteers through regular telephone, online and face-to-face engagement.
- Work collaboratively with other Community Organisers to develop shared training, resources, systems and support structures.
- Manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines within a fast-moving campaigning environment.

Qualifications
- Experience building effective local and national campaigns that have used public participation and grassroots mobilisation to achieve campaign objectives.
- Demonstrable experience developing strong and impactful groups with effective leadership structures, onboarding and retention processes, and inclusive working practices.
- Ability to identify and act on strategic campaign opportunities through both long-term planning and responsive tactical activity.
- Experience coaching and developing the leadership skills and capacity of others using an organising-based approach.
- Ability to work effectively at scale, including confidence using digital systems and routinely tracking and reporting progress.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and tight deadlines.
- Ability to engage, motivate, organise and train volunteers through telephone, online and in-person activity.
- Commitment to building diverse and inclusive volunteer networks and community structures.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Pay range and compensation package
Salary: £48,396–£55,644 per annum plus benefits; appointments are normally made at the start of the salary range.
