Role Purpose
WC is seeking qualified sessional counsellors to deliver community counselling across Birmingham and Solihull on a self-employed basis. The contractor will provide 1-to-1 and group counselling sessions, conduct assessments, use validated outcome tools and maintain clinical records in accordance with WC’s clinical governance framework. This is a self-employed engagement. The contractor is responsible for their own professional registration, insurance, tax and national insurance.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Delivery
- Deliver short-term counselling (up to 6 sessions) for adults with mild to moderate emotional distress
- Provide trauma-informed, culturally appropriate counselling
- Deliver 1-to-1 and group sessions in person and online/phone
- Conduct assessments, risk assessments and safety planning
- Use validated outcome tools: WEMWBS, PHQ-9, CORE, DIALOG+, GBO, ReQoL
- Maintain accurate clinical records in WC’s CRM system
Safeguarding and Risk
- Follow WC safeguarding procedures
- Escalate concerns to Clinical Lead within 24 hours

Professional Standards
- Attend monthly clinical supervision provided by WC
- Participate in reflective practice and CPD as required
- Maintain BACP or UKCP registration
Person Specification
Essential
- BACP or UKCP registered
- Level 4 Diploma (or higher) in Counselling or Psychotherapy
- Minimum 1 year post-qualification experience (or current placement with minimum 100 hours completed)
- Experience with outcome monitoring tools
- Professional indemnity insurance
- Own equipment (laptop, secure internet) for online delivery
- Enhanced DBS clearance
Desirable
- Experience with Global Majority (BAMER) communities
- Group therapy experience
- Multilingual ability (Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic, Somali)
- Community or primary care mental health experience

Additional Requirements
- Enhanced DBS check (contractor to fund if not held)
- BACP or UKCP registration maintained
- Professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Contractor responsible for own tax arrangements
- Willingness to travel across 5 localities
Important: This role is contingent on ongoing funding. Continuation beyond the initial contract period is subject to the availability of programme funding.
