Role Purpose
WC is recruiting qualified counsellors to support the delivery of our Community Counselling service across Birmingham and Solihull.
This is a flexible, sessional opportunity involving short-term counselling for adults experiencing mild to moderate emotional distress. The service is open to all eligible adults and is delivered through community locations, online, and by telephone.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
You will:
- Deliver short-term individual counselling of up to six sessions
- Support the delivery of group counselling where required
- Complete initial assessments, risk assessments, and safety plans
- Provide trauma-informed and culturally responsive support
- Use recognised outcome measures, including PHQ-9, CORE, WEMWBS, GBO, DIALOG+, and ReQoL
- Maintain accurate and timely records using WC’s case-management system
- Follow WC’s safeguarding, confidentiality, and clinical governance procedures
- Escalate safeguarding or risk concerns to the Clinical Lead
- Attend monthly clinical supervision provided by WC
- Take part in reflective practice and relevant continuing professional development

Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a Level 4 Diploma or higher qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy
- Be registered with BACP or UKCP
- Have at least one year of post-qualification experience, or have completed at least 100 supervised clinical placement hours
- Understand clinical assessment, risk management, and safeguarding
- Hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Hold an Enhanced DBS certificate or be willing to obtain one
- Have access to a suitable laptop and secure internet connection for online delivery
- Be available for a minimum of two days each week
- Be able to travel to community venues across Birmingham and Solihull
It would be helpful if you also have:
- Experience supporting people from culturally diverse communities
- Experience delivering group counselling
- Community or primary-care mental health experience
- Experience using clinical outcome-measurement tools
- The ability to provide counselling in Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic, or Somali

Contract Arrangements
- Self-employed, sessional contract
- Competitive salary
- Flexible working with a mixture of community-based, online, and telephone delivery
- Minimum availability of two days per week
- Expected initial duration of up to two years, subject to funding and service requirements
- Contractors are responsible for their own tax, National Insurance, professional registration, and insurance
Important: This role is contingent on ongoing funding. Continuation beyond the initial contract period is subject to the availability of programme funding.
