About the role
This is an FTC until January 2028, proudly funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Working 18.5 hours per week, you’ll play an important role in supporting the day-to-day running of The Hive. The Hive operates Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, and your hours will be based on-site, with alternating weekend working on Saturdays. The working hours and pattern will be discussed if successful for interview.
You'll play a key role in coordinating community sessions, preparing spaces and ensuring activities run smoothly at The Hive. Alongside this, you'll support the day-to-day running of the kitchen, helping to deliver a welcoming food offer, maintain high food hygiene standards, manage stock levels and support volunteers, creating a safe and positive experience for everyone who visits.
Skills and Experience Needed
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in busy people-focused, community-driven environments - someone friendly, proactive, organised, and passionate about helping individuals and groups build on their strengths.
We’re looking for someone who brings hands-on experience from community or customer-facing roles, with confidence supporting activities, programmes, or group sessions.
Experience working with or alongside volunteers is essential, and any background in community food projects or supporting people facing disadvantage or barriers would be highly beneficial.
You’ll be friendly, approachable, and community-minded, with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with customers and volunteers. Strong organisational skills are a must, along with the ability to manage day-to-day priorities in a busy environment.
You’ll hold a relevant qualification in community development, youth work, or bring equivalent transferable experience. Food preparation or food hygiene training is desirable, but not essential as we can offer this training!

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
