Company Description
SIKH SANJOG is a nonprofit organization established to support women in the Sikh community who began settling in Edinburgh in the 1950s. The organization emerged from the Leith Sikh Community Group, which initially organized small-scale outings and activities for women and children to reduce social exclusion and isolation. Over time, its programs expanded in scope and reach, offering more structured community support and development activities. Today, SIKH SANJOG continues to grow, providing inclusive services that empower Sikh women and families and strengthen community connections in Edinburgh.
Role Description
The Community Development Lead is a part-time, on-site role based in Edinburgh, focused on strengthening community connections and supporting Sikh women and families. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Planning, coordinating, and delivering community activities, workshops, and outreach initiatives that address social isolation and promote empowerment.
- Engaging directly with community members, listening to their needs, and co-designing supportive programs and services.
- Managing projects and partnerships with local organizations.
- Monitoring program outcomes and reporting on progress to the leadership team.
- Maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.
- Supporting volunteers.
- Ensuring activities reflect SIKH SANJOG’s mission and values.

Qualifications
- Strong Community Engagement and Community Development skills, with experience working directly with diverse communities.
- Excellent Communication skills, including the ability to build trust, facilitate group discussions, and produce clear written reports.
- Experience in Economic Development or related initiatives that support empowerment, skills-building, or access to opportunities.
- Proven Project Management skills, including planning, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of community-based projects.
- Understanding of issues affecting Sikh women and minority communities, and commitment to inclusive, culturally sensitive practice.
- Ability to work on-site in Edinburgh, collaborate with partners, and occasionally work flexible hours to support community events.
- Background in social work, community development, nonprofit management, or a related field is beneficial; relevant education or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience supervising volunteers or small teams, and familiarity with safeguarding and ethical guidelines in community work.
