Role Description
The Community Development Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Long Eaton, focused on supporting and strengthening local voluntary and community initiatives in Kirk Hallam. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Engaging with community groups and residents
- Identifying local needs
- Helping to design and deliver community projects

The role involves providing guidance and capacity-building support to voluntary organizations, including:

- Training sessions
- Signposting to resources
- Assisting with funding applications
The Community Development Officer will:
- Build and maintain partnerships with local stakeholders
- Attend community meetings and events
- Contribute to monitoring and reporting on project outcomes
This position also includes:
- Promoting volunteering opportunities
- Sharing best practice
- Ensuring inclusive, accessible community engagement
Qualifications
- Strong Community Engagement and Communication skills, including the ability to listen, facilitate dialogue, and build trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in Community Development and Capacity Building, supporting local groups to plan, deliver, and sustain projects that meet community needs.
- Ability to design and deliver Training and workshops for volunteers, community leaders, and partner organizations.
- Knowledge of voluntary sector structures and local community networks, with the ability to work collaboratively across agencies.
- Good organizational and project management skills, including planning, record-keeping, and reporting on outcomes.
- Competence with standard office software and digital communication tools.
- Relevant experience in community work, social care, or the voluntary sector; a qualification in community development or a related field is beneficial.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice, with the ability to work flexibly, including occasional evening or weekend activities.
