Company Description

Moneywise Newcastle Credit Union Ltd is the largest community development credit union in the North East, serving over 12,000 members and managing assets in excess of £6M. Established in 1991 through the amalgamation of 12 community credit unions, 3 study groups, and the Newcastle City Council Employees Credit Union, it has strong roots in local communities. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors that represents diverse sections and areas across the city, ensuring inclusive decision-making. Moneywise focuses on providing accessible financial services, promoting financial wellbeing, and supporting community development for individuals and families.

Role Description

The Community Development Worker is a full-time role with a hybrid working arrangement, based in Middlesbrough with some work-from-home flexibility. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

Collaboration with colleagues, participation in team meetings, and continuous improvement of community engagement strategies are also key aspects of this position.

Qualifications

  • Interpersonal Skills and Communication abilities to build trust, engage diverse communities, and explain financial services clearly.
  • Skills in Community Support and Community Health to promote financial wellbeing, connect people to appropriate resources, and contribute to wider community development initiatives.
  • Relevant experience in community work, social care, or non-profit settings, ideally with a focus on financial inclusion or credit unions, is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of basic financial services, budgeting, and money management, and the ability to communicate these concepts in accessible language, is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage time effectively, and adapt to working both in the community and from home.
  • Competence in using standard office software and digital tools for communication, record-keeping, and outreach activities is advantageous.
  • A relevant qualification in community development, social work, public health, or a related field, or equivalent experience, would be beneficial.
