Job Opportunity: Receptionist at Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC)
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust as a Receptionist within the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). As the first point of contact for patients, visitors and colleagues, you will provide a professional, welcoming and efficient reception service while supporting the smooth running of the department.
Responsibilities
Working as part of a busy team, your duties will include:
- Patient check-in
- Appointment management
- Handling telephone enquiries
- Maintaining accurate patient records
- Supporting patients throughout their diagnostic journey
Requirements
Applicants must hold:
- GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent, including Functional Skills Level 2)
- Experience working with the public in a busy environment
Previous healthcare, appointment booking or NHS systems experience would be advantageous.
The successful candidate will have:
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Attention to detail
- A professional and compassionate approach
- Ability to manage a varied workload
- Competence in Microsoft Office applications
- Understanding of confidentiality, information governance and data protection

The CDC may operate up to 12 hours per day, 7 days a week, therefore flexibility to meet service needs is required.
About the Role
Based within the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), the Reception Team plays a key role in delivering a professional, welcoming and efficient service to patients, visitors and colleagues. As the first point of contact, the team supports patients throughout their diagnostic pathway by managing patient check-ins, appointment administration, telephone enquiries and maintaining accurate patient records across a range of digital systems.
Duties include:
- Welcoming patients and visitors
- Booking and managing appointments
- Responding to enquiries
- Supporting administrative processes
- Maintaining reception areas
- Processing correspondence
- Updating Trust systems
Applicants should have:
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Attention to detail
- A professional and empathetic approach when dealing with patients, relatives, visitors and colleagues
- Ability to manage a varied workload
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Maintain confidentiality
- Remain calm in a busy environment
The CDC may operate up to 12 hours per day, 7 days per week, therefore flexibility to meet service requirements is required.
