About Us
We’re Blind Veterans UK, a charity that helps vision-impaired ex-service people from every generation rebuild their lives after their sight has been affected. Founded in 1915 by Sir Arthur Pearson to help the many veterans losing their sight during the First World War, we have over a century of experience providing the very best care and support.
Since then, we’ve supported tens of thousands of vision-impaired veterans, helping them regain their independence and providing the tools, skills and confidence they need to lead fulfilling, active lives.
We’re one transformational team that believes every vision-impaired veteran should be able to lead the life they choose.
We are now looking for a Community Engagement Executive to join us on a permanent, part-time basis, working 21 hours per week.

The Role
As a Community Engagement Executive, you will support the relationship between our centre in Rustington and the local community, showcasing our work and ensuring we have strong ties throughout the area.

Taking responsibility for the Centre's Facebook page, you'll create, schedule and monitor engaging, accessible content, whilst gathering stories and images that highlight the experiences of veterans, families and volunteers.
You'll also support the Community Engagement Lead with local events, activities and initiatives, working closely with Centre colleagues and the wider Communications Team to promote our work and build positive relationships with the local community.
Additionally, you will:
- Identify and develop human-interest stories
- Monitor Facebook engagement and performance
- Assist with planning, promoting and delivering Centre events and community activities
- Prepare updates, captions and other content for internal and external communications
- Maintain accurate records of stories, permissions, images and content plans
About You
To be considered as a Community Engagement Executive, you will need:
- Experience or qualifications in communications, events, marketing, social media or a related field
- Experience creating engaging content for social media, websites, newsletters
- Experience of using Facebook or other social media platforms on behalf of an organisation, including planning, posting and monitoring content
- An understanding of permissions, consent, confidentiality and safeguarding
- The ability to identify and gather human-interest stories sensitively
- Strong written communication skills
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- The confidence to work with veterans, families, volunteers, colleagues and community contacts in a professional and respectful way
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Teams
