Company Description

Burnley Youth Theatre is a nationally respected charity that has developed over the past 50 years from a small local voluntary organization into a leading creative hub for young people with our own purpose-built theatre.

Role Description

The Community Engagement Lead is a 12-month fixed-term contract in Burnley. The main focus is our new 3-year, National Lottery Reaching Communities youth voice outreach project. 'Young Community' is a true co-creation multi-artform project working with targeted groups of young people aged 11-18.

This role is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with local communities, schools, youth groups, and partner organizations, ensuring broad access to Burnley Youth Theatre’s programs. Day-to-day tasks include:

  • Coordinating community events

The role also involves:

  • Collaborating with the artistic and administrative teams to align engagement initiatives with the theatre’s mission
  • Supporting evaluation and reporting
  • Contributing to funding applications or partnership proposals where relevant

Qualifications

  • Community outreach and engagement skills, including experience working with children, young people, families, and diverse communities
  • Program coordination and project management skills to plan, deliver, and evaluate events, workshops, and partnerships
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present, facilitate group activities, and build long-term relationships
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills, with experience working across artistic, administrative, and external stakeholder groups
  • Organizational and administrative skills, including record-keeping, basic reporting, and use of standard office and communication software
  • Understanding of safeguarding, inclusivity, and equal opportunities in youth and community settings
  • Experience in arts, education, youth work, or community development is highly beneficial
  • Relevant training or qualification in community arts, youth work, education, or a related field is advantageous, or equivalent experience
