We’re hiring a Community & Environmental Officer.
Flitwick Town Council is looking for a Community & Environmental Officer to play a central role in delivering projects that bring people together, strengthen community connections, and enhance the local environment. If you're passionate about community and the environment, we'd love to hear from you.
This is a 5-month contract with a view of becoming permanent.
37 hours per week
Salary: £30,023 per annum

Job Purpose
- To organise and oversee community projects, prioritising the Community Strategy to strengthen the Town’s community value.
- To encourage effective local community engagement.
- To work towards a single town community, whilst celebrating diversity and individuality.
- To work on a wide range of environmental services and new initiatives within the town.
Main Responsibilities
- To assist the Manager in implementing the Community Engagement Strategy.
- To support the Manager in achieving the objectives for your team, and to contribute to the wider Council wide objectives where possible.
- To have a basic level of record keeping, planning and experience of working with community groups.
- Assist with delivery of community fridge and related activities.
- To develop, deliver and evaluate project initiatives and liaise with the Communications and Marketing Manager on their promotion.
- To service and support the Community Services Committee.
- To promote the Town Council and its work to the community.
- To work with Central Bedfordshire Council on its community engagement in Flitwick and how to support local residents with concerns.
- Identify and implement projects that will increase community value for the Council, preparing and submitting bids.
- Look for ways to engage with and support the more vulnerable in society and the “hard to reach” groups.
- To observe the principles of customer/client care, equality, quality management and good health and safety standards and to help achieve and contribute towards Local Council Award status.
- To undertake community engagement event within the community, including children and young people, vulnerable adults, SEND and other community groups.
- To support the delivery of community events e.g. Family Fun Day, Christmas Lights etc.
- To assist in the delivery of the Town Council’s Strategy to build a sustainable and resilient Flitwick including green spaces and biodiversity, the Town Council’s own impact and sustainability, and community sustainability and resilience.
- To assist with administrative tasks relating to the burial ground and allotments.
- To provide support and administration of working groups such as the Nature Park, Manor Park etc.
- To assist with other matters relating to the Public Realm under the instruction of the manager, such as play areas and open spaces.
- To undertake other tasks allocated by the Council which are within the competence and capability of the post holder.

QUALIFICATIONS
- A good general education – Key Skills Level 2 in Maths and English (E)
- Evidence of Continual professional development. (D) Evidence of Safeguarding and First Aid. (D)
EXPERIENCE
- Experience of working with all members of the community (E)
- Experience of organising, overseeing and evaluating community projects. (E)
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and delivering services to customers. (D)
- Experience of planning, and managing projects, preferably in the public or voluntary sectors. (D)
- Experience of working with and supporting community and voluntary organisations. (E)
- Experience in safeguarding and DBS procedures. (E)
- Experience of applying for Community Grants (D)
- Experience of using the Microsoft suite of products. (E)
