Could you help us raise vital funds so more older people living in care homes enjoy regular meaningful connections?

We are looking for a volunteer with fundraising or events experience to help us grow our community fundraising across Richmond, Hampshire, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight.

What difference will you make?

Every pound we raise goes directly into our work supporting older people living in care homes, many of whom go days without a single meaningful conversation.

Think about what that means. An older person sitting alone in a care home, no family nearby, no one popping in to ask how they are. Our volunteers change that. But we can only train and support volunteers, develop new programmes, and expand into new areas if we have the funds to do so.

Community fundraising is one of the ways we make that possible. It is not just about the money, though that matters enormously for a small charity like ours. It is also about building awareness of our work in local communities, strengthening relationships with churches, businesses and community groups, and creating a network of people who champion what we do.

When you help organise a quiz night or a concert, you are not just raising funds. You are telling the story of Embracing Age to people who may never have heard of us. You are bringing our community together around a cause that matters. And you are directly enabling us to reach more isolated older people who need us.

Our Big Give Christmas campaign is a particularly powerful example of this. Every pound donated during the campaign is matched, which means your fundraising efforts are doubled in impact. A volunteer who helps us promote and deliver that campaign is making a genuinely significant financial contribution to our work at one of the most important times of our year.

For a small charity like ours, community fundraising volunteers are not a nice to have. They are essential. You will be part of a team of people who care deeply about what we do and want to help us do more of it.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with at least three years of experience in community fundraising, events management, or charity income generation. You will bring practical knowledge of what it takes to plan and deliver successful fundraising activities and the confidence to represent Embracing Age in your local community.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Here is what we are looking for

  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to talk to people about our work, whether that is approaching a local business for sponsorship, promoting an event on social media, or simply telling a friend why Embracing Age matters.
  • Initiative and creativity. We are a small team and we cannot hand you a detailed script for every situation. We need someone who can think on their feet, come up with ideas, and get things moving.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Some of this role involves working on your own initiative in your local area. Some of it involves coordinating with our staff team and other volunteers. You need to be comfortable with both.
  • Reliability and follow through. If you commit to organising an event or delivering a task, we need to know it will happen. We are not looking for perfection, but we do need people we can count on.
  • An affinity with our Christian values of compassion, service and care for older people. You do not need to be a practising Christian to volunteer with us, but we would love you to feel a genuine connection with our mission and the people we serve.
  • A genuine passion for making a difference to older people living in care homes. The more you care about our cause, the more compelling you will be as an ambassador for Embracing Age in your community.

We warmly encourage applications from people from Black and Asian communities, younger adults, and anyone who wants to use their energy and ideas to help a small charity grow. Local knowledge of any of our four areas, Richmond-upon-Thames, Hampshire, West Sussex or the Isle of Wight, would be a real bonus though it is not essential.

If you are not sure whether you are the right fit, please just get in touch. We would much rather have a conversation than miss out on the right person.

What will you be doing?

We are a small but growing charity and we need to raise more funds to reach more older people living in care homes who have no one to visit them. That is where you come in.

We are looking for a volunteer with some fundraising or events experience who can help us develop and deliver community fundraising activities across our four areas, Richmond-upon-Thames, Hampshire, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight. You can get involved in one area or support our fundraising more broadly, it is entirely up to you and what works for your location and availability.

Here is what you could be involved in

  • Planning and helping to deliver community fundraising events such as quiz nights, concerts, coffee mornings, bake sales and local fairs. These are fun, community focused activities that bring people together around a cause they care about.
  • Supporting our Big Give Christmas campaign, one of the UK's biggest matched giving campaigns, where every donation is doubled. This is a brilliant opportunity to make a real financial difference to us at a critical time of year.
  • Encouraging local businesses, community groups and churches to support Embracing Age through sponsorship, fundraising partnerships or their own fundraising activities.
  • Helping us develop new fundraising ideas that we have not thought of yet. We are a small team and we do not always have the capacity to think creatively about income generation. Fresh ideas and local knowledge are genuinely valuable to us.
  • Supporting the coordination of volunteer fundraising teams in your area, helping to motivate and organise other community fundraisers.

This is a flexible role and you can give as much or as little time as works for you. You might want to get involved with a one-off event or take on a more regular role helping us build our community fundraising programme over time. Both are equally welcome.

We will give you a full induction, ongoing support from our team, and all the materials and guidance you need to represent Embracing Age confidently in your community.
