Company Description

Riverside Community Health Project is a long-established charity working to improve health and wellbeing and reduce inequalities in Newcastle’s West End.

Based at the Carnegie Building in Benwell, we provide a welcoming community hub alongside a wide range of support and activities for local residents, including children and families services, welfare advice, health and wellbeing support, learning opportunities, and community activities.

For over 45 years, Riverside has worked alongside local people and partners to respond to the needs and priorities of our communities. We work closely with residents, NHS and public-sector partners, schools, and voluntary and community organisations to make support more accessible and help create a healthier, more connected West End.

Role Description

We are looking for a Community Hub & Operations Lead to oversee the day-to-day running of the Carnegie Building and lead our front-facing hub and administration team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

This is a varied, practical, and people-focused role. You will help ensure the hub is welcoming, safe, well organised, and responsive to the needs of residents, staff, and partner organisations.

You will oversee front-of-house and administrative arrangements, coordinate use of the building and room bookings, manage facilities and contractors, and supervise relevant staff and volunteers. You will also help develop effective systems and processes, support events and activities, and work with colleagues and partners to make the best use of the hub.

Working closely with the Chief Executive and wider management team, you will play an important role in developing the Carnegie Building as an accessible and well-run community resource at the heart of the West End.

  • Experience of supervising or coordinating staff and/or volunteers and creating a positive, supportive working environment.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.
  • Excellent people and communication skills, with the confidence to work with residents, colleagues, partners, contractors, and other building users.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach and the ability to respond calmly and effectively when issues arise.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using everyday systems for administration, monitoring, and coordination.
  • An understanding of the importance of providing an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming community environment.
