About Gaza Sunbirds
The Gaza Sunbirds are Palestine’s para-cycling team and humanitarian initiative, empowering amputee athletes to serve their communities through sport and solidarity. Since 2023, the team has led large-scale aid operations, food distributions, and community resilience projects across Gaza, while continuing its mission to represent Palestine internationally in para-cycling competitions.
Role summary
The Community Manager is responsible for building, mobilizing, and nurturing relationships with donors, volunteers, advocates, supporters, and the wider public to advance the organization's mission. This role sits at the intersection of community engagement, communications, and grassroots mobilization — creating meaningful ways for people to connect with the Gaza Sunbirds.
Core responsibilities
A. Events, Bookings and Global Community Activation
- Proactively identify and develop opportunities for Gaza Sunbirds to participate in events, talks, screenings, panels, conferences, and community gatherings around the world.
- Manage bookings for Sunbirds athletes, representatives, films, and presentations, from initial enquiry through preparation and follow-up.
- Build relationships with community organizations, solidarity groups, universities, cultural institutions, cycling communities, and other networks that can create opportunities for the Sunbirds.
- Maintain an active pipeline of events, speaking opportunities, screenings, and collaborations.

B. Community Events and Fundraising
- Support individuals and community groups organizing fundraisers, rides, screenings, talks, and other activities on behalf of Gaza Sunbirds.
- Provide organizers with the materials, information, and guidance they need to represent and fundraise for the organization effectively.
- Build longer-term relationships with supporters and organizers, connecting people across cities and countries to strengthen the wider Sunbirds community.
- Coordinate Gaza Sunbirds-led community events where required.
C. Press and Media Relationships
- Build and maintain an international network of journalists, editors, producers, photographers, and other relevant media contacts.
- Develop ongoing relationships with existing media contacts while identifying new journalists, publications, and media opportunities in priority markets.
- Coordinate media enquiries, connecting journalists with the appropriate Sunbirds representatives, athletes, stories, and materials.
- Work with the wider communications team to share relevant stories and opportunities with the Sunbirds media network.
D. Network Management and Coordination
- Maintain organized records of community partners, organizers, fundraisers, journalists, bookings, and opportunities.
- Ensure promising conversations, opportunities, and introductions are followed through.
- Provide regular updates on upcoming events, fundraising activity, media relationships, and emerging opportunities.

What we’re looking for
- Good political awareness particularly regarding Palestine and the Middle East
- Calm, thoughtful, and highly accountable
- Commitment to the mission and values of Gaza Sunbirds and to the communities it serves
- Experience working directly with communities, grassroots organizations, marginalized groups, or volunteer networks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with community members
- Comfortable working across both strategic and hands-on community-building tasks
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple events and relationships, simultaneously
