DataHER Africa is dedicated to mentoring Black and Brown women who aspire to build impactful careers in data and AI. The organization connects aspiring professionals with experienced mentors who offer guidance, support, and practical insights to navigate the tech landscape. Through one-on-one mentorship, career coaching, and targeted advice, DataHER Africa helps participants strengthen their skills and gain confidence. The community focuses on sharing knowledge, experience, and encouragement to unlock each participant’s potential in the data-driven world. Applicants will join a mission-driven network that aims to transform both individual careers and broader communities.
Role Description
The Community Manager is a remote, volunteer role responsible for nurturing and growing the DataHER Africa community of aspiring professionals and mentors. Day-to-day tasks include:

The role involves:
- Organizing virtual events and mentorship sessions
- Collecting feedback
- Identifying opportunities to improve member experience
The Community Manager will:
- Create and share community updates
- Collaborate with mentors and partners
- Track engagement metrics to support program goals
This role works closely with the core team to strengthen community cohesion and align activities with the organization’s mission.
Qualifications
- Community engagement and online community management skills, including experience moderating discussions and fostering inclusive participation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to write clear, empathetic messages and build relationships across diverse backgrounds.
- Organizational and project coordination skills, including scheduling events, managing workflows, and following through on commitments.
- Digital platform proficiency, such as using social media, community tools (e.g., Slack, Discord, or similar), and video conferencing platforms.
- Experience or strong interest in data, AI, or technology fields, and alignment with mission-driven, mentorship-focused initiatives.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage time effectively, and respond promptly to community needs.
- Prior experience in community management, program coordination, or volunteer leadership is preferred but not required.
- Comfort working with diverse communities and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and non-discriminatory practices.
