Company Description
Hey! Food is Ready is a hyperlocal marketplace connecting companies with independent chefs, artists, and makers from more than 60 nationalities.
The company began with food and continues to focus on authentic dishes prepared by certified cooks for events of all sizes and formats. It has since expanded into creative and cultural workshops, offering experiences such as matcha making, Chinese calligraphy, Afrobeats dance, and other food and wellbeing activities that bring teams together.
Founded in 2021, Hey! Food is Ready has worked with 125 chefs from 65 countries, 85% of them women, delivering more than 800 events for clients including Google, Amazon, Barclays, NatWest, Condé Nast, and the UK government.
The marketplace is designed to celebrate cultural diversity, amplify the voices of minority ethnic communities, and create meaningful income opportunities for local culinary and creative talent. We believe food and culture are central to building community and a sense of belonging.
Role Description
We are looking for one freelance Community Manager, based in London, to do three things.
- Photograph our events
Come with us to events across London, meet the chefs and the clients, and photograph the food and the people.

Run our social media
Turn that material into content. Write the captions, plan what goes out, and keep the channels active. -
Design our marketing materials
Posters, menus, social graphics, and event collateral. We are currently working on our Christmas menus.
Work is scheduled around our event calendar, so hours vary from week to week, and dates are agreed in advance. Students are welcome to apply.
Qualifications
- Based in London and able to travel to events across the city
- Photography skills, with the confidence to shoot in a live event setting
- Graphic design skills, using Canva and Photoshop
- Social media skills, with the ability to write clear, engaging copy
- Comfortable meeting new people and talking to chefs and clients
- Genuine interest in food and culture from a wide range of backgrounds
- Able to work independently, manage deadlines, and adapt in a fast-moving environment
- Previous experience in community management, hospitality, events, or a related field is beneficial
- Right to work in the United Kingdom

- Photography samples. A few images you have taken. A full portfolio is not necessary.
- Location. Which part of London you are based in.
- Availability. When you are usually free.
- Design task. A two-page Christmas menu.
For the design task, have a look online at what a British Christmas menu usually includes, then design two pages:
Page 1 — who we are and what we do. Use the company description above, or write your own version.
Page 2 — a sample Christmas menu. Choose the dishes yourself based on your research.
Design it as though it were going to a corporate client. Format and orientation are up to you.
We are looking at your visual style, your layout, and how you handle a page of text. Finished work is not expected, and submissions are used for assessment only. We will not use them commercially.
