The RNLI – one of Britain’s best-loved charities that saves lives at sea through lifeboat search and rescue, lifeguards and water safety education – is seeking a Community Manager (Northern Ireland) to inspire and support volunteers and supporters, helping to grow support for the RNLI’s cause and secure the vital income that powers its lifesaving delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Being connected to the RNLI community across Northern Ireland and acting as the primary point of contact for all things engagement, including fundraising, retail and visitor experience.
- Empowering volunteer engagement crew to engage the public, share the RNLI vision and grow support for the cause.
- Supporting volunteer engagement crew to achieve key income, footfall and contact goals and seeking ways to engage new audiences.
- Inspiring, supporting and harnessing the skills of volunteers, focusing and maximising efforts where they will have the greatest impact in meeting the needs of supporters and delivering targets.
- Delivering income targets and achieving other goals and KPIs, including fundraising and partnerships, marketing and visitor experience, and retail.
- Spending at least 80% of time with supporters and volunteers in value-adding activities.
- Liaising with regional leads for fundraising and partnerships, marketing and visitor experience, and retail to ensure the required skills and knowledge are available.
- Working with communications, events, face-to-face, legacy, media, philanthropy and trusts contacts within the region to help achieve targets.
- Undertaking volunteer recruitment and management to ensure the right people are in the right places to help achieve targets.
- Understanding the support requirements of supporters and volunteers so they can spend the maximum amount of time in value-adding activities.
- Being an active member of the Regional team, demonstrating the highest levels of collaborative working and collective responsibility.
- Contributing to a positive safety culture and identifying and managing risks to safety, health and environment.
- Managing operational risk, including compliance with internal and external standards, policies and procedures.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement based on feedback from supporters and volunteers.
- Demonstrating sound financial management by delivering activities within budget and timescales.

Skills and Experience
- Significant experience of engaging supporters, volunteers and the general public in order to generate funds.
- Proven track record of results delivery.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and engagement skills.
- Active listening skills and the ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences.
- People leadership experience, ideally in leading volunteers in a collaborative environment.
- Substantial experience of leading and embedding change and improvements.
- Experience of seeking out and implementing new opportunities for improved performance.
- High levels of emotional intelligence and problem-solving skills.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of organisational issues and challenges.
- Ability to inspire and influence people to drive and embed changes and improvements.
- Ability to work as part of a high-performing team and confidently work independently.
- Passion for making a real difference for supporters, volunteers and customers.
- Energetic and highly motivated approach to tackling challenging goals and targets.
- Ability to plan ahead while keeping the supporter and volunteer experience front of mind.
- Valid driving licence.

Salary: £35,853–£42,181 + benefits + vehicle.
Location: Home-based with regular travel across Northern Ireland and occasional travel to other RNLI assets, including the regional base in Dublin.
Hours: 37 hours per week, with flexible working across all seven days and some weekend and evening working required.
Closing date: 14 September 2026 (with interviews scheduled for 24–25 September 2026).
