This is an exciting opportunity to develop and manage the volunteer programme for York’s Community Mental Health Hubs, supporting innovative, person-centred mental health and wellbeing services across the city.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will recruit, train, support and supervise volunteers across Hub locations at Clarence Street, Acomb Garth and a future South East York hub, while helping shape new volunteering opportunities as the service grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, onboard, train and support volunteers to enhance mental health and wellbeing services.
- Develop meaningful, inclusive volunteer roles through co-production with Hub users, volunteers, staff and partner organisations.
- Ensure volunteers have the knowledge, skills and confidence to work safely and effectively, including safeguarding, confidentiality and reporting requirements.
- Provide supervision, guidance and development opportunities that promote volunteer wellbeing, retention and growth.
- Monitor and evidence volunteering impact through data collection, reporting and evaluation, meeting Trailblazer funding requirements and stakeholder expectations.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and partners to align volunteer activity with service objectives and community priorities.
- Build strong relationships across voluntary, community, health and statutory sectors to strengthen partnerships, community engagement and volunteer recruitment.
- Champion trauma-informed approaches and the Hubs’ values of inclusion, choice, understanding, equality, strength and community.
- Support volunteer-led initiatives that promote connection, recovery and wellbeing.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
