Help Global MapAid Connect with the Malawian Community Worldwide

We seek a well-connected volunteer with Facebook and community engagement experience to identify relevant groups, build trusted relationships, and grow awareness of our work.

What Difference Will You Make?

This is a unique, humbling opportunity, towards helping us begin to create sustainable farm water for 47 million people in Ethiopia, living in rural areas, under the poverty line.

We have noticed the best volunteers have patience and a good sense of humour, because altogether what we are doing as a team is difficult. But when was something worth doing, altogether easy?

What Are We Looking For?

We are seeking a dynamic, well-connected, and passionate Community Outreach and Facebook Engagement Volunteer to help Global MapAid build meaningful connections with the Malawian community in the UK. The ideal candidate will have strong community engagement and social media skills, particularly a deep understanding of Facebook groups, online communities, and how to build trusted relationships that encourage genuine participation.

Experience

  • Community Engagement: Proven experience engaging and building relationships with communities, stakeholders, or diverse audiences.
  • Social Media: Strong experience using Facebook and other social media platforms to identify, engage, and grow online communities.
  • Relationship Building: Experience connecting with community leaders, group administrators, influencers, or other key stakeholders.
  • Outreach: Ability to identify relevant community groups, networks, and online spaces and develop effective approaches for reaching them.
  • Communications: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create messages that are engaging, culturally sensitive, and appropriate for different audiences.
  • Community Knowledge: Knowledge of the Malawian diaspora or wider African communities in the UK would be highly desirable.
  • Digital Engagement: Experience creating conversations and encouraging meaningful engagement rather than simply publishing promotional content.

Qualities

  • Well-connected: Ideally someone who is already connected to, or confident engaging with, Malawian and African communities in the UK.
  • A People Person: Naturally confident in starting conversations, building relationships, and making new connections.
  • Resourceful: Able to identify relevant Facebook groups, online bulletin boards, community networks, and opportunities for outreach.
  • Culturally Aware: Sensitive to different community cultures and able to communicate in a respectful and authentic way.
  • Passionate: A genuine interest in Global MapAid's mission and a commitment to supporting African communities and farmers.
  • Proactive: Comfortable working independently, bringing new ideas, and taking initiative to help us expand our community reach.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The ideal volunteer does not necessarily need to be a traditional social media professional. We are particularly interested in someone who understands how communities connect online, knows how to build trust and conversations, and can help open doors to the Malawian community in the UK.

  • Build relationships with Facebook group administrators and community connectors.

About Global MapAid

Global MapAid is a non-profit organisation with a vision to boost food supply, clean drinking water, and irrigation for small farmers in Africa, starting with Ethiopia's 47 million small farmers under the poverty line. Our method is to create an Artificial Intelligence in Ethiopia to map shallow groundwater, so that food & water specialists have a better idea for where to drill or dig for water, making available money and time go further.

We are looking for a highly connected and experienced volunteer to help us engage with the Malawian community.

Our work has the potential to make a meaningful difference, but we know that reaching a community effectively requires more than simply posting on social media. We are looking for someone who understands Facebook community engagement, knows how to identify and connect with relevant online communities, and ideally has existing knowledge of or connections within the Malawian diaspora.

You will help us:

  • Identify relevant Malawian community Facebook groups, pages, and online bulletin boards.
  • Map key community groups, administrators, and influential voices.
  • Develop a respectful approach for introducing our work to these communities.
  • Build relationships with Facebook group administrators and community connectors.
  • Advise on the type of content and messaging most likely to encourage genuine engagement.
  • Help us create conversations and connections rather than simply posting promotional content.
  • Identify opportunities to expand our reach through trusted community networks.

What Are We Looking For?

We are particularly interested in someone with at least three years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Social media management or digital community engagement.
  • Community outreach or stakeholder engagement.
  • Digital marketing or communications.
  • Building and managing online communities.
  • Working with diaspora, African, or culturally diverse communities.

You do not need to be Malawian. However, knowledge of the Malawian community, diaspora networks, or African community engagement would be highly valuable.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who understands that successful community engagement is built on relationships, trust, and authentic conversations.

What Difference Will You Make?

Your expertise will help us connect with communities that may otherwise be difficult to reach through traditional communications channels.

By helping us identify the right Facebook communities, build relationships with trusted community voices, and develop meaningful engagement, you will play an important role in expanding awareness of our work and connecting us with the people and communities we hope to reach.

Time Commitment

This is a flexible, remote volunteer role. We anticipate an initial commitment of approximately 2–5 hours per week, with flexibility around when the work is completed.

We would initially like to work with the volunteer on a focused outreach project, with the potential to continue the relationship depending on mutual interest and impact.
