Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, personable Community Participation & Volunteering Coordinator to join our growing team and help shape how local people, volunteers, and community groups connect with nature, culture, and history. You’ll focus on building partnerships, supporting volunteers, and creating meaningful opportunities for participation across Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole. This role is fixed-term with the opportunity to be made permanent.

What it's like to work here

Brownsea Island sits in the heart of Poole Harbour and is part of the Purbeck Heaths National Nature Reserve and only accessed by boat. It is home to a wide range of wildlife, most notably Dorset’s only population of red squirrels. As part of the new 10-year strategy the Portfolio will seek to deliver the Ending Unequal Access strategy for communities across BCP. Particularly focusing on underserved communities using a partnership approach. It’s proximity to the urban area of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole means we are uniquely situated to create meaningful opportunities for participation and deepen public connection with our work.

What You'll Be Doing

As our Community Participation and Volunteering Coordinator, you’ll help shape how people connect with the National Trust across BCP. You’ll champion inclusive, community-focused engagement, working with the Community, Participation and Volunteering Manager to deliver opportunities that welcome people from all backgrounds.

You’ll work alongside volunteers, supporting the volunteer journey and ensuring they have flexible, rewarding volunteering experiences. From developing new ways for people to get involved to strengthening relationships with local groups, you’ll help build meaningful pathways into our work.

Every day will look different, you might be co-creating a project with a community partner, delivering nature engagement activities to young people, or exploring new approaches to participation in BCP. What stays constant is your commitment to collaboration, community partnerships, and ensuring our work genuinely benefits the people of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
