HOURS: 35 hours per week, full time. TERM: Permanent contract SALARY: £29,000 - £31,000 per year LOCATION: Flexible hybrid mix of office-based in Bristol and home working REPORTS TO: Community, Events & Volunteering Manager

About the role

Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity raises funds for all 13 hospitals within the Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. We’re here to bring moments of joy, comfort and hope to those who need it most; the millions of patients and their loved ones who pass through our hospital doors each year and 26,000 NHS staff who care for them.

So many of these people want to say thank you for the incredible care they receive. Whether that’s taking on a challenge, fundraising in memory, or spreading the word to their community group. That’s why we're looking for our next Community Partnerships & Events Fundraising Officer, someone who is passionate about building relationships and delivering great supporter care to these people.

This is a varied role where one day you could be planning our Christmas Star concert, on another you could be having coffee with a supporter and on another cheering runners over the finish line of the Bristol Half Marathon. You’ll be ready to join our community of kindness and help our supporters give something back to our hospitals.

This is a dynamic and varied role where you will work closely with colleagues across fundraising, marketing and hospital teams to deliver our 2025–2030 strategy and bring our community closer to the charity’s mission.

Job description

You will be responsible for harnessing the passion of in aid of supporters in the community and within the hospitals, motivating and inspiring them to maximise their support. You will build strong relationships, delivering excellent stewardship to engender long term and sustainable support alongside recruiting new supporters.

The core objective of this role is to increase sustained levels of voluntary income raised by communities in Bristol and the surrounding areas, focusing on building relationships and partnerships with community organisations and individuals. This could be through proactively recruiting supporters, building strong partnerships and promoting participation in events. You will offer exceptional donor care, encouraging supporters, creating long lasting, sustainable support.

You will also work across our Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity flagship event series, being highly involved in the event planning, stewardship of our supporters and on the day event logistics.

Key responsibilities

  • To achieve agreed financial and non-financial targets at an acceptable cost-to-income ratio
  • Recruit new fundraisers and act as the initial point of contact for potential and existing community supporters and fundraisers, delivering excellent supporter stewardship throughout their journey
  • Actively build relationships with community groups, schools, sports clubs and community organisations
  • Support the smooth planning and delivery of Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity fundraising events
  • Motivate and inspire individuals and groups to support Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, offering outstanding donor care and effective stewardship and giving appropriate advice about their fundraising activities
  • Work with the Communications Team on community fundraising campaigns, events, and fundraiser stories
  • Work with the Hospitals Partnership Manager to provide support to hospital staff in their fundraising efforts
  • Work closely with other fundraisers to swap and generate leads
  • Attend events, pitch and photo opportunities, cheque presentations and deliver presentations to build relationships with the community and promote Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity
  • Research and recommend new ways of raising funds and generating income through community fundraising
  • Ensure all third parties who fundraise for us are representing the values of Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity
  • To work with the Community, Events & Volunteer Manager to monitor progress against key performance indicators
  • Adhere to the highest standards of community fundraising best practice as set out in the Fundraising Regulators Fundraising Code and ensure that all activities comply fully with the relevant Data Protection obligations and any other legislation

Skills and experience

Essential:

Skills, knowledge, education, experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of community fundraising with a track record of meeting and exceeding fundraising targets
  • A track record of recruiting new fundraisers, providing excellent stewardship and building strong, lasting relationships with supporters
  • Experience of working with community groups to generate support
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - a real people person
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with a flair for giving presentations and dealing with large groups
  • Ability to express the vision and achievements of the charity clearly to a variety of audiences
  • Experience of planning and delivering new projects
  • IT skills to include confident use of Microsoft Office programs, databases and ability to produce succinct and informative reports
  • Ability to work on own initiative, self-directed and motivated

This role does not require applicants to hold a degree or equivalent.
