Are you passionate about helping people lead healthier, more active lives? Do you have experience delivering community-based activities and engaging with young people and families?
We're looking for a Community Physical Activity Officer to join our Community Wellbeing team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by helping residents overcome barriers to physical activity and supporting some of the district's most vulnerable communities.
Working alongside local partners, schools, clubs, and community organisations, you'll help bring high-quality sport and physical activity opportunities within reach of those who need them most, particularly young people and families experiencing financial disadvantage.
As Community Physical Activity Officer, you'll play an active role in developing, coordinating, and delivering a range of programmes designed to improve health and wellbeing across the district.
You will:
- Support residents facing barriers to participation in sport and physical activity
- Plan and deliver engaging activity sessions within community and school settings
- Build strong relationships with schools, clubs, partner organisations, and community groups
- Monitor participation levels and contribute to programme reporting
- Coordinate the deployment of casual staff and sports coaches
- Support the delivery of initiatives including You Move and Move Together
- Assist with budget monitoring and programme development
- Help ensure activities are delivered safely, effectively, and in line with safeguarding requirements
This is a varied role that combines project development, partnership working, administration, and hands-on delivery, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working both in the community and behind the scenes.
Please note that this post is up to a 12-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover.
If you're passionate about community wellbeing and helping people become more active, we'd love to hear from you.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
