The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Community Nurse within the South Glasgow Older People’s Mental Health Team. The team is based across Shawmill Resource Centre, Pollokshaws and Elderpark Clinic, Govan, and works as part of a multidisciplinary service including Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Mental Health Nurses and Clinical Support Staff. The post holder will provide comprehensive assessment, treatment and care for people aged 65 and over experiencing functional and organic mental health conditions. This role offers the opportunity to manage complex cases, develop specialist expertise in Older People’s Mental Health, supervise and mentor junior staff, contribute to service development initiatives, and act up for the Band 7 Team Leader when required.

- Fixed Term Role - Maternity Cover (9 Months)
- Location: Elderpark Clinic
- Hours: 36 Hours per week (Monday - Friday 9am -5pm)

- Managing a defined caseload
- Undertaking comprehensive mental health assessments
- Developing and evaluating individualised care plans
- Delivering evidence-based interventions for older adults experiencing mental health difficulties
Working autonomously within a Community Mental Health Team, the successful candidate will:
- Collaborate closely with patients, carers, primary care services, health and social care professionals, and voluntary agencies
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences
- Implement local and national policies
- Maintain accurate clinical records
- Conduct risk assessment and management
- Supervise and appraise junior staff
- Support student nurse learning
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives
- Promote public health and wellbeing
The post holder will also:
- Provide leadership within the nursing team
- Support recruitment activity
- Participate in caseload supervision
- Deputise for the Nursing Team Leader when required
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications, and/or Experience Required
- First level Registered Mental Nurse (RMN)
- Minimum of 2 years' community mental health experience at Band 5 level or equivalent
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the post
- Current driving licence (Essential)
- Experience of working with older people with functional and organic mental health conditions
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of relevant mental health, community care and safeguarding legislation
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and service improvement
