About The Role

Balfour Beatty (Urban Fox) has an exciting opportunity for a Community Relations Manager to join our growing team.

Base location can be either Kent or Suffolk

What you'll be doing

Community Engagement & Communication

  • Act as the primary point of contact between project delivery teams and residents, businesses, local communities, customers and stakeholders, ensuring project activities, impacts and mitigation measures are clearly communicated and understood.
  • Lead and deliver stakeholder and community engagement activities, including public information events, exhibitions, consultations, community liaison forums, newsletters, mail drops, door-to-door engagement and other outreach initiatives. Act as the main point of contact for residents, businesses and stakeholders.
  • Communicate project information including scope of works, programme and timelines, disruption and mitigation measures.
  • Manage reputational opportunities and risks, working with Group Communications and Corporate Affairs to protect and enhance the reputation of the project, customer and Urban Fox.
  • Plan, create and deliver high-quality communications, campaigns and content that promote and share key project milestones, achievements, customer outcomes, social impact and business objectives across internal and external channels.
  • Support work-winning activities by providing communications, stakeholder engagement, community relations and social impact expertise to bids and proposals.

Stakeholder & Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, local communities, local authorities, elected members, businesses, project partners and key stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
  • Build relationships with residents and community groups, local authorities and elected members, businesses and other affected stakeholders.
  • Represent the project at stakeholder forums, community liaison groups, public consultations and stakeholder external engagement meetings.
  • Manage stakeholder enquiries, concerns and complaints professionally and promptly, ensuring issues are resolved or escalated appropriately and records are maintained in line with contractual and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor stakeholder sentiment, community feedback and emerging issues, identifying and escalating customer, community and reputational risks where necessary.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on communications and stakeholder engagement performance, providing insight and recommendations to improve effectiveness, customer experience and community outcomes.

Enquiries, Complaints & Reputation Management

  • Manage all inbound community enquiries and respond to complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Identify emerging issues and escalate where required.
  • Maintain an accurate log of complaints, actions taken and outcomes.

Impact Mitigation

  • Work collaboratively with delivery teams to identify and mitigate project impacts, including noise, access restrictions, disruption, traffic management and environmental considerations, ensuring mitigation measures are communicated effectively to affected stakeholders.
  • Promote respectful behaviours across project teams and support positive engagement with customers, communities and stakeholders.

Who we're looking for

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in community engagement, customer service or stakeholder management.
  • Ability to manage sensitive situations and handle complaints professionally.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping capability.
  • Empathetic and approachable, with confidence engaging with the public.
  • Proactive and solutions-focused, with the ability to remain professional under pressure.
  • Team player with ability to work with individuals across multiple geographical locations.
  • A driving licence and willingness to travel.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience in construction, highways or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working in occupied environments, including residential areas.
  • Knowledge of Considerate Constructors and social value requirements.
  • Experience working with local authorities, elected members and community stakeholders.
