Role Overview
Community Wardens work out of a dedicated base - the post is not suitable for home or hybrid working.
The Community Warden Team sits within the Community Protection Service Area. The Community Warden Team plays a significant role in reducing crime and disorder and creating a safe and attractive environment. Community Wardens will come into regular contact with members of the public who are displaying anti-social behaviour e.g., verbal abuse, aggression, drug/alcohol abuse, trespassing, rough sleeping, and begging. The post holder will therefore need to be proficient in dealing with conflict situations with those aggrieved by the issue of a Fixed Penalty Notice or behaving anti-socially.
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our Community Warden Team, based in the Community Safety Team within the Community Protection Service Area. Community Wardens play an integral role in the prevention and reduction of low-level crime and anti-social behaviour and therefore need to be proficient in dealing with conflict situations, be a good problem solver, confident decision maker, and have the ability to remain calm in emergency situations. The successful candidate will require excellent communication skills. They will also be a good team player who can work using their own initiative.
Main Responsibilities
- To provide a highly visible uniformed presence, acting as a ‘Council Ambassador’. Engaging with the public using the towns, parks, and open spaces, delivering excellent customer service when dealing with queries face to face, via phone, email, social media, providing advice and support to local residents, and where necessary, referring/signposting to relevant agencies.
- To support and engage with all community safety partners and relevant WDC service areas and teams, with a collective aim of reducing crime, anti-social behaviour, and protecting vulnerable people from harm. This role includes supporting the delivery of the animal warden function involving the collection of stray dogs.
- To actively support police, street pastors, CCTV Team, and other partner agencies in the safe management of the night-time economy and transition from day to evening.
- To conduct intelligence led patrols in locations identified as hotspots for anti-social behaviour, serious violence, violence against women and girls, and other crime types. This will in turn provide reassurance to the local community and disrupt and deter would-be perpetrators.
- To issue Fixed Penalty Notices objectively and accurately in relation to all of the district’s Public Spaces Protection Orders, collating all necessary supporting evidence, in accordance with relevant legislation. To be prepared to be a witness in court.
- To accurately record incidents, intelligence, and patrols using WDC’s reporting systems.
- To contribute to the wider remit of the Community Safety Team in delivering the priorities of the South Warwickshire Community Safety Partnership.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
