Job Title: Company Accountant

Location: Belfast Skin Clinic, 18 Deramore Drive, Belfast

Reports to: Head of Finance & Business Operations

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum depending on experience

Hours: Full Time, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm in office

Annual leave: 34 days per year (including public holidays)

The Belfast Skin Clinic is a unique private clinic offering treatments for all skin problems and associated conditions. The clinic is housed in a purpose-built facility specifically designed to deliver world-class healthcare. Led by Dr Pamela McHenry and her team of clinical and managerial staff, the Belfast Skin Clinic is committed to a patient-focussed approach and we provide the highest standard of care.

The clinic is fast-growing and expanding its reputation as a leading centre for dermatology, plastic surgery, vascular, rheumatology, laser and aesthetic care in Northern Ireland.

To support the clinic’s growth strategy, we are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing vital support to the Head of Finance and Business Operations in delivering accurate, timely and compliant financial information.

This role covers transactional finance, payroll and VAT returns, management accounts, forecasting and cashflow management, together with compliance with internal and external financial policies, processes and governance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day transactional finance function, including sales and purchase ledger, bank reconciliations, credit control and supplier payments
  • Prepare monthly management accounts to a defined timetable, including in-depth commentary and variance analysis against budget for board reporting
  • Develop and deliver Key Performance Indicators reporting across clinical and non-clinical areas of the business
  • Prepare year-end statutory accounts and act as the main point of contact for the clinic's external accountants
  • Prepare annual budgets, rolling forecasts and cashflow projections, and monitor performance against them
  • Produce cost and activity analysis to support pricing and investment decisions
  • Run the end-to-end monthly payroll, including pension, statutory payments and all HMRC submissions
  • Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns, including the partial exemption calculations arising from exempt medical supplies
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of accounting systems, internal controls and procedures, including opportunities for automation
  • Train, mentor, support and manage the finance team, deputising for the Head of Finance & Business Operations as required
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and external financial, regulatory and governance requirements

Key Requirements:

This role is ideally suited to a qualified accountant or an accountant qualified by experience. It is vital, the successful candidate has a minimum of 3 - 4 years relevant experience. The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Qualified in either Chartered/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent experience
  • Excellent IT skills including Excel (V-lookups and Pivot Tables) and use of AI technology
  • Experience of accounting software packages e.g. Sage or Xero
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Attention to detail and high accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
  • Legally permitted to work in Northern Ireland

Personal Attributes:

  • Proactive, organised, and able to work in a fast-paced environment, working to deadlines.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain positive relationships.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare accounting role desirable
