Overview

Our client is a long-established Sheffield business operating within the construction sector with over 40 years of success across commercial and residential markets. With consistent growth and a reputation for looking after their people, they are now seeking a Company Accountant to act as the No.2 in Finance, supporting the Finance Lead and wider leadership team.

This is a pivotal role within a tight-knit finance function, where you’ll oversee day-to-day financial operations across multiple trading entities and the holding company. Working closely with the Finance No.1, you’ll be positioned as their long-term successor, offering a clear pathway to step into the top finance role over the next 4–5 years.

The Role

A broad, hands-on position with responsibility for key financial processes and operational oversight, including:

  • Managing weekly payroll and subcontractor payments
  • Overseeing credit control, customer contact, issuing statements, and chasing retentions
  • Maintaining sales and purchase ledgers
  • Stock booking, costing, and cashflow monitoring
  • Preparing daily cash sheets for directors
  • Monthly PAYE, CIS returns, reconciliations
  • Supporting quarterly management accounts and year-end audit preparation
  • Acting as deputy to the Finance Lead, covering essential duties during holiday periods

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
