Company Commercial Solicitor (Head of Department), 8+ Years PQE, Gloucester/ Hybrid, £90,000+ (DOE)

This is more than a traditional Head of Department position. It’s an opportunity for a senior solicitor with strong commercial instincts and a passion for developing people and relationships to build on an established practice, shape its strategy and raise its profile across Gloucestershire and beyond.

The Role

  • You’ll take ownership of the department’s performance and development while continuing to act for an interesting mix of businesses and entrepreneurs.
  • Your client work could include M&A, shareholder arrangements, commercial agreements, reorganisations, joint ventures and corporate governance, alongside providing strategic advice to SMEs and owner-managed businesses.
  • Setting ambitious but achievable plans for growth and profitability
  • Building a strong, motivated and collaborative team
  • Developing existing client relationships and winning new work
  • Increasing the department’s profile through networking and market engagement
  • Identifying opportunities to improve how the team works and delivers its services
  • Supporting and mentoring solicitors at different stages of their careers
  • Working with colleagues across the firm on wider strategic and business development initiatives
  • Contributing to the firm’s leadership and long-term direction

Skills Required

  • Applications are sought from Company Commercial Solicitors with a minimum of 8 Years PQE.
  • Significant corporate/commercial legal experience
  • A strong record of winning and retaining clients
  • Leadership, supervision or team management experience
  • The ability to identify and pursue opportunities for growth
  • A strategic mindset combined with a practical, hands-on approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A collaborative leadership style and genuine interest in developing others
  • The ambition to make a visible contribution at Senior Management Team level
