Competition Litigation Associate | 3–5 PQE | London

The Firm

William James Recruitment is instructed by a leading, dynamic and commercially focused law firm to appoint a Competition Disputes Associate with around 3–5 years' PQE to join its highly regarded Disputes team in London.

The firm acts for some of the biggest names across financial services, retail, technology, media and professional services, alongside major financial institutions, multinational businesses, funds and private clients. With a clear strategic focus across Commercial & Financial Disputes, Insurance, Regulatory, Retail & Consumer, and Technology & Media, the firm has enjoyed significant commercial growth and continues to invest in its core practices.

Culture is a fundamental part of the firm's DNA. The firm places equal importance on the quality of its work and the experience of its people, creating an environment where individuals feel involved, valued, trusted and able to be themselves.

The culture is deliberately different from that of a traditional, hierarchical City firm. People are approachable and collaborative, with flexibility and trust central to the way teams operate. The firm looks for people with personality as well as technical ability and invests heavily in professional development and wellbeing.

There is a genuine emphasis on creating a strong sense of community while giving individuals the autonomy and responsibility to develop their careers.

The Team

Competition Litigation is an established and growing part of the wider Disputes practice.

The team acts for both claimants and defendants across a broad range of competition-related disputes, including standalone and follow-on damages claims, collective proceedings and complex litigation before the Competition Appeal Tribunal and High Court.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
