My client is recruiting for a Complex Crime Paralegal or Legal Assistant to join their Bristol team.

Candidates should take the time to read all the elements of this job advert carefully. Please make your application promptly.

The successful candidate will assist Solicitors and Advocates in preparing cases for court. The firm have over 15 national offices that comprise more than 250 members of staff.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assisting Solicitors and legal representatives with case preparation
  • Managing a caseload of files under the supervision of litigators
  • Drafting correspondence to clients, courts and third parties
  • Applying for Legal Aid, prior authority and other case funding
  • Taking client instructions and preparing statements, applications, written representations and other legal documents
  • Uploading and downloading case material through CCDCS
  • Assisting with diary management and ensuring Court Orders are complied with
  • Maintaining accurate time recording and case management records
  • Ensuring files meet the firm's internal standards and Lexcel requirements
  • Undertaking legal research and assisting with the instruction of experts where required
  • Providing a high standard of client care

Person Specification

  • Previous experience within criminal law or a solicitor's office is desirable
  • Ideally, experience managing your own criminal casework
  • Good understanding of client care and a commitment to Legal Aid work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong IT skills and willingness to learn new systems
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Proactive approach with the ability to anticipate and support fee earner requirements
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
