Band 7 Specialist Medicine Dietitian
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Specialist Medicine Dietitian to join our friendly and enthusiastic Adult Dietetics Department at the Royal London Hospital.
The position offers an exciting opportunity for a highly organised and ambitious Dietitian to lead the Dietetics service for Specialist Medicine and provide complex nutritional support on the specialist medicine wards. This includes a number of specialist areas including infection and immunity, complex endocrinology and respiratory. The successful candidate should have expert knowledge and experience within the area complex nutrition support and should be able to provide advice for parenteral nutrition. Preferably the successful candidate will also have experience working with people with complex mental health and social needs including exposure to people with eating disorders.
We are looking for applicants who are extremely motivated and hard-working with previous experience of managing a very busy caseload along with experience of leadership and successful line management. There is scope to expand and develop the services and the successful candidate is expected to engage and lead in service development. Excellent communication skills and multidisciplinary working is required. Evidence of undertaking quality improvement initiatives and service development is also essential.

This contract for this role will end on 31st December 2029.
Key Responsibilities
- To be the lead dietitian for dietetic interventions within specialist medicine – this includes infectious diseases and immunity, endocrinology, respiratory medicine and care of the elderly.
- To support the Clinical Lead Dietitian with provision, performance and development of the specialist medicine dietetic service.
- To be responsible for providing expert level dietetic assessment, treatment and advice to a specialist caseload with complex nutritional support requirements including complicated endocrinology, infection and immunity, HIV, respiratory diseases and cardiology. This may include enteral and parenteral nutritional support.
- To support junior dietitians in the provision of dietetic support within these clinical areas, and to assist their development and career progression through supervision, one to ones and training.
- To use advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist support and advice to dietetic and other clinical staff within Barts Health.
- Working within the multidisciplinary team to provide an effective dietetic service to a variety of medical patients. This includes initiating and engaging in best interest discussions for patients who lack capacity.
- To be responsible for planning and delivering specialist nutrition training to medical staff, nurses and students and other health care professionals on intensive care.
- Partake in the development of trust wide policies, protocol and guidelines.
