Birchlake Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a consumer lender in the search for a Compliance Associate to join its Compliance & Risk Management function.

The organisation provides financial services to clients throughout Europe and following continued business growth, an excellent opportunity has arisen for an early-career compliance or legal professional to gain broad exposure across regulatory compliance, complaints, consumer protection, data protection and contract support.

The role is primarily execution-focused, supporting the Chief Financial Officer across a broad range of operational regulatory and compliance matters. The successful candidate will assist with preparing documentation, supporting complaint and claim handling, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external advisers, and contributing to the ongoing development and maintenance of the company's compliance framework.

This role would suit someone with 1–3 years experience in a legal, regulatory or compliance environment who is looking to develop their career within financial services and gain exposure to the FCA regulatory framework and UK consumer finance.

The Role

As Compliance Associate, you will provide day-to-day support to the Compliance & Risk Management function across a range of legal, regulatory and operational activities.

Working under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, you will support contract processes, customer complaints and claims, regulatory reporting, data protection, compliance monitoring and internal documentation.

The role offers broad exposure across the business and the opportunity to work closely with teams including Sales, Risk and Complaints, as well as external legal advisers and regulatory stakeholders where appropriate.

The position does not involve independent decision-making on complex legal or regulatory matters, but provides an excellent platform to develop technical knowledge and take on increased responsibility over time.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
