Compliance Business Partner

Department: SBSS
Location: Bristol
Compensation: £48,000 - £57,000 / year

Description

As a Compliance Business Partner, you will help Somerset Bridge Group grow responsibly while delivering fair outcomes and exceptional experiences for our customers. Working as a trusted adviser within the second-line Risk and Compliance function, you will provide practical, commercially aware guidance, constructive challenge and regulatory oversight across the business. You will build strong relationships with stakeholders, translate regulatory requirements into clear action and embed compliance by design in business change, products and day-to-day operations.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Building and managing effective and collaborative relationships with key business stakeholders
  • Provide effective compliance advice through the successful management of stakeholder relationships.
  • Identification of emerging risks and regulatory change and supporting implementation work led by business areas
  • Supporting business areas in identifying and managing conduct related risks, including implementation of controls
  • Supporting business areas in maintaining strong regulatory relationships including by prompt, correct regulatory reporting
  • Provide subject matter expertise on UK General Insurance matters
  • Proactively provide support, guidance and challenge on compliance issues
  • Handle and document internal and regulatory queries in an adequate and timely fashion (e.g. regulatory enquiries, data queries and consultations)
  • Proactively support and guide business change and operational initiatives to achieve compliance in a cost effective and business friendly manner (compliance by design)
  • Become the go-to person including arrangement and delivery of internal compliance training
  • Provide input for the development of compliance policies and procedures in regard to regulatory requirements
  • Identify & escalate risks and control deficiencies to management including solutions to mitigate future issues.

What you'll need:

  • Strong working knowledge of FCA regulation, conduct risk and key priorities affecting the UK general insurance sector.
  • Sound understanding of risk, controls and materiality, with the judgement to focus attention on the issues that matter most.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complex requirements clear and actionable.
  • Confident stakeholder management and influencing skills, including the credibility to challenge constructively at senior levels.
  • An analytical, methodical and curious approach, with the ability to understand new products, processes and business areas quickly.
  • Strong organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage a varied portfolio and deliver high-quality work to deadlines.
  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • High standards of integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Initiative, resilience, adaptability and a willingness to continue developing technical expertise.
  • An ICA, CII or equivalent qualification would be desirable but is not essential.
