Kennedys is looking for a Compliance Cashier to join the Finance team in the Chelmsford office.
The successful candidate will contribute to the effectiveness of the Finance team by delivering a comprehensive, accurate and efficient compliance cashiering service to internal and external clients. The role will support the firm and department in achieving their business objectives while ensuring financial transactions are processed in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements, jurisdictional accounts rules and firm policies.
The Compliance Cashier will maintain the high standard of service offered to the firm's existing clients and help further the professional reputation of the Financial Operations team, the office and the firm.
Team
Kennedys Finance team support the firm globally producing timely and accurate financial and management information, reporting solutions and operational support to maintain the high standard of service offered to the firm's internal and external clients.
Our Finance team is made up of Financial Control, Financial Planning and Reporting, Management Accountants, Credit Control, Legal Cashiers and Billers and Financial Operations Database teams.
Our UK Finance team is based in Chelmsford and London and have a presence in eight global offices.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with financial operations cashiering projects and ensure compliance with solicitors' accounts rules across multiple jurisdictions
- Undertake forensic reviews of client account balances
- Liaise directly with lawyers, partners and clients to ensure the prompt return of residual balances
- Monitor and test work undertaken by the Financial Operations team to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal service-level agreements
- Identify required improvements or remedial action and present findings and recommendations to the management team
- Design internal guidelines and contribute to the development of the firm's compliance infrastructure to support effective operational controls
- Liaise with the Solicitors Regulation Authority on Accounts Rules queries and prepare papers for appropriate submission
- Assist with the reconciliation of all firm bank accounts, working with the Cashiering Manager and Assistant Cashiering Managers to resolve issues promptly and record breaches where necessary
- Assist with monthly reporting requirements under the SRA Accounts Rules
- Assist in preparing monthly Board reports
- Deliver an effective and timely service by managing workload efficiently and maintaining a high degree of accuracy
- Perform any other relevant tasks as required by the firm
- Operate safely and considerately in the workplace

Required Experience
- 3–5 years' experience working within a legal Finance department
- Comprehensive knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules
- Excellent analytical and financial skills, with strong attention to detail
- Demonstrable experience reviewing and reconciling residual client account balances
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills developed within a partnership environment
- Excellent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel
- Commitment to delivering a professional service to the highest standards
- Ability to prioritise workload effectively and meet deadlines
