Compliance Manager - Asset Management

Location: Edinburgh/Hybrid
Office requirement: 3 days per week

Salary: to circa £80k basic plus a generous benefits package including bonus, pension, PHI etc

The Opportunity:

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well established investment business in a broad compliance role with genuine exposure across the organisation.

Working as part of an experienced compliance function, you will provide practical regulatory advice to colleagues across areas including product, distribution, operations, finance, risk and legal.

The role offers a varied workload covering business advisory, regulatory developments, governance reporting and change activity. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, helping the business understand its obligations while supporting sensible commercial decision making.

This position would suit an experienced asset management compliance professional who enjoys working closely with the business, interpreting complex requirements and turning regulation into clear, workable actions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear and commercially balanced compliance advice to business stakeholders
  • Support senior management with regulatory queries, emerging risks and key decisions
  • Maintain policies, procedures and elements of the UK compliance framework
  • Assess new regulatory requirements and identify their potential impact on the business
  • Translate regulatory developments into practical guidance for affected teams
  • Support the delivery of regulatory change and compliance improvement initiatives
  • Prepare reporting for senior management, boards and governance committees
  • Work closely with colleagues across Legal, Risk, Internal Audit, Operations, Sales and Product
  • Contribute to the oversight of areas such as outsourcing, operational resilience and regulatory reporting
  • Support wider compliance projects involving international teams and multiple jurisdictions
  • Help identify control weaknesses and support the development of appropriate solutions
  • Build effective relationships across the business while providing constructive regulatory challenge

About You:

Preferably some previous compliance experience within asset management or investment management. That may be in house or via a Consulting business or Regulator (FCA)
Strong understanding of the UK regulatory environment
Practical knowledge of the rules affecting investment firms and regulated funds
Experience providing compliance advice directly to business stakeholders
Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and explain them clearly
Strong written communication skills with experience producing guidance, reports or committee papers
Confidence working with senior stakeholders across several business functions
Sound judgement with the ability to balance regulatory risk and commercial priorities
Able to manage competing demands and work independently
Collaborative, pragmatic and comfortable operating within a complex organisation

Desirable Experience – some of the following would be ideal:

  • Knowledge of UCITS requirements
  • Understanding of AIFMD
  • Familiarity with MiFID requirements
  • Exposure to fund governance, product oversight or distribution compliance
  • Knowledge of outsourcing and third party oversight requirements
  • Experience supporting operational resilience activity
  • Previous involvement in regulatory change programmes
  • Experience working within an international asset management business
