What is the job role?
We have some exciting opportunities within the Neighbourhood Enforcement Team. You will be working under the general direction of the Neighbourhood Enforcement Team Managers dealing with a wide range of environmental issues such as fly tipping, littering, waste management offences, and statutory nuisance issues that affect our neighbourhoods.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a proactive, motivated and resilient individual who enjoys solving problems and making a positive difference in local communities. You will be confident dealing with a wide range of people and able to communicate clearly, professionally and sensitively, both in person and in writing.
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong organisational and investigatory skills
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritise competing demands in a busy environment
- Ability to build positive working relationships, influence behaviour, and take a practical approach to achieving compliance
Experience in environmental crime, environmental health, housing enforcement, community safety, or a similar regulatory environment would be advantageous, although we also welcome applicants with transferable investigation, compliance, or enforcement skills. You should be comfortable using IT systems and preparing accurate records and reports. GCSEs in English, Mathematics, and a Science subject are essential, while a degree and previous enforcement experience would be beneficial.
The role involves regular outdoor work in all weather conditions and engagement with members of the public, so we are seeking someone who is adaptable, professional, and committed to delivering a high-quality public service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
