The Compliance Officer

The Compliance Officer will support the Vice President and wider management team in maintaining and strengthening Hisense UK’s corporate governance and regulatory compliance framework. This role will act as a coordination hub between Hisense UK, Group Compliance (China and Europe HQ), and external legal advisers, ensuring the company operates in line with applicable UK legislation, internal governance standards, and Group compliance expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Governance

  • Maintain company governance records and statutory filings on Company House.
  • Coordinate internal reviews of management standards, policies, procedures, and delegations of authority to ensure compliance with Group and UK legal standards.
  • Provide data and responses to government agencies such as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) when required.
  • Support ad-hoc legal or regulatory projects as assigned by the business.

Compliance Support

  • Data Protection & Information Security: Act as the first point of contact for UK Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), ensuring timely and lawful responses. Support GDPR compliance including privacy notice management, vendor due diligence, and data-sharing agreements. Work closely with HR, IT, and Customer Service teams to strengthen data-handling and retention practices. Liaise with Ward Hadaway and the HQ Data Protection Office on escalated data privacy matters.
  • Fair Competition Compliance: Coordinate Hisense UK’s annual competition law compliance activities, including training, declarations, and reporting.
  • Modern Slavery Compliance: Lead coordination of modern slavery compliance activities, including, the annual Modern Slavery Statement, supplier due diligence, and internal awareness initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of compliance training, monitoring, and awareness programmes across departments.
  • Assist in periodic compliance audits and reporting activities requested by Group HQ or external auditors.
  • Prepare regular compliance status reports for management review.
  • Monitor developments in UK legislation (competition, consumer protection, data privacy, etc.) and communicate relevant updates internally.

Commercial Contract Support

  • Assist in reviewing and tracking commercial contracts, service agreements, and vendor documentation.
  • Ensure legal templates, approval processes, and delegation of authority rules are correctly applied before contract execution.
  • Maintain a central contract register and coordinate with internal teams on renewals and document updates.
  • Liaise with external counsel for contract or regulatory clarifications when required.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in legal, compliance, or governance support (in-house or law firm).
  • Familiarity with UK data protection, competition law, and corporate governance practices preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to work effectively across functions and cultures.
