Job Description
Compliance & Risk Officer
Location: Cardiff
Salary: Up to £45,000
Contract: Permanent
Working pattern: Hybrid, 2–3 days on site
Vargo is supporting our Financial Services client with the appointment of a Compliance & Risk Officer on a permanent basis.
This is a broad compliance and risk role reporting to the Head of Risk and Compliance. The successful candidate will support executive-level governance, compliance monitoring, risk frameworks, regulatory change, and board-level reporting within a regulated financial services environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Executive Committee Secretary.
- Coordinate recurring leadership and executive-level meetings.
- Prepare agendas, meeting packs, and pre-reading materials.
- Attend meetings and produce accurate, action-focused minutes.
- Track and follow up on actions, escalating where necessary.
- Support delivery of the annual compliance plan.
- Maintain compliance and risk policies, procedures, and frameworks.
- Conduct compliance monitoring reviews and report findings to senior management.
- Support regulatory change initiatives and provide practical input on compliance implications.
- Support the risk management framework, including risk identification, mitigation, resolution, and reporting.
- Assist with compliance reports for board and executive management.
- Build effective relationships across the business as a trusted compliance advisor.

The role will also support the continued development of the compliance and risk function, including training, awareness, reporting, and the use of data, AI, and technology to improve compliance monitoring.

About You
You will have experience in compliance, auditing, or regulatory roles, with a strong understanding of risk frameworks, data protection, and regulatory standards. You’ll be organized, analytical, and confident communicating with senior stakeholders.
Suitable candidates may come from financial services, banking, lending, mortgages, insurance, or another regulated environment.
Professional certifications such as CeMAP, ICA, ACII, or FCII would be advantageous but are not essential.
