About the Role
This role provides hands-on experience and structured learning in composite manufacturing processes and quality standards. You will work under supervision while developing technical competence, safe working practices, and an understanding of production processes required to produce high-quality composites components for a range of sectors.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
The Composites Technician Apprenticeship will include structured stages of development, all required to manufacture high-quality composite components, which include:
- Induction and safety training.
- Basic composite manufacturing skills in different areas of the process.
- Material handling and preparation.
- Manufacturing techniques & skills development including; Kit cutting, Laminating, Breakout, Trim & Assembly departments.
- Quality inspection & adherence processes.
Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
Course Contents
- Work safely at all times, complying with health and safety legislation, regulations, and other relevant guidelines.
- Comply with environmental procedures and systems and contribute to the achievement of specific standards e.g. ISO 14001 or other relevant environmental standards.
- Demonstrate their ability to carry out their role effectively, efficiently, and flexibly maintaining lean manufacturing principles to meet customer’s demands e.g. JIT.
- Demonstrate their skill and knowledge following SOPs and building their versatility across a number of processes and process areas.
- Demonstrate appropriate process documentation control.
- Demonstrate their ability to identify and resolve problems within the lean manufacturing environment using effective problem-solving tools and techniques.
- Generate ideas and contribute to process improvement activities individually or as part of a team through fact finding and analysis to improve the safety, environment, quality, cost, or production process.
- Demonstrate communication skills which include oral, written, electronic (PC), information boards, or visual displays to effectively share information.
- Check components for damage and that they are in a usable condition.
- Produce components which comply with the specification and quality requirements.
- Carry out quality checks on component parts and completed assemblies and deal with quality concerns and defects in line with their responsibility.
- Safely move materials to the correct location using the relevant equipment.
- Perform one processing/finishing operation method e.g. hand processing, manually operated machine processing, fully automated machine processing, combined processing.

Qualifications Included
- Lean Manufacturing Operative Apprenticeship Standard.
- Company Training Plan & Assessment.
- Level 2 Diploma in manufacturing - Knowledge & Skills (workplace).
- Level 1 Functional Skills - Maths (If required).
- Level 1 Functional Skills - English (If required).
- End Point Assessment at the end of the apprenticeship.
GCSE in:
- English and Maths (grade 4-9 (C-A*))
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
Requirements
Regardless of technical knowledge or skill set, a great attitude and respect for the core values of the business and hard work are expected to form the foundation of any member of the BAMD team. Arriving to work on time and respecting their peers who are training them are very important factors.
Applicants must be able to drive and over 18 due to working hours and hold a full clean UK driving licence. Be able to have the right to work in the UK.
