Compressed Air Service Engineer
We are looking for an experienced Compressed Air Service Engineer to join our growing engineering team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, fault-finding, installing and commissioning compressed air and nitrogen generation systems at customer sites.
You will ideally have a field service background within compressed air, industrial gases or related mechanical/electrical equipment.
Experience may include working with:
- Rotary screw air compressors
- Piston compressors and high-pressure compressors
- Nitrogen generators
- Compressed air dryers
- Filtration systems
- Pneumatics
- Valves and regulators
- Pipework systems
- Vacuum pumps and vacuum systems
- Pumps and rotating equipment
- Pressure vessels and compressed gas systems
- Electrical control panels, sensors and instrumentation
Experience specifically with nitrogen generators is advantageous but not essential, as product-specific training will be provided.
Responsibilities:
As a Compressed Air Service Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance on compressed air and nitrogen generation systems.
- Servicing rotary screw, piston and high-pressure compressors.
- Servicing and maintaining PSA nitrogen generators and associated equipment.
- Diagnosing mechanical, electrical and pneumatic faults.
- Troubleshooting system performance issues and identifying root causes.
- Replacing filters, separators, valves, sensors and other service components.
- Carrying out compressor oil and consumable changes.
- Inspecting compressed air dryers, filtration and air treatment equipment.
- Testing nitrogen purity, flow and pressure.
- Checking compressed air pressure, flow, temperature and system performance.
- Installing and commissioning new compressed air and nitrogen generation systems.
- Assisting with the assembly and build of new nitrogen generation packages at our facility.
- Installing compressors, nitrogen generators, filtration, dryers, storage vessels and associated pipework.
- Carrying out pressure and leak testing following installation.
- Commissioning systems and confirming that equipment is operating to specification.
- Setting up and testing sensors, monitoring equipment and control systems.
- Supporting remote monitoring and diagnostics where required.
- Reading engineering drawings, equipment manuals and electrical diagrams.
- Completing service reports and documenting work carried out at customer sites.
- Recording equipment condition and recommending preventative or corrective actions.
- Identifying potential system improvements and efficiency opportunities for customers.
- Providing professional technical support and advice to customers.
- Maintaining company tools, equipment and service vehicle to a high standard.
- Maintaining suitable stock of commonly required service parts and consumables.
- Working closely with NSC's engineering, sales and project teams.
- Supporting equipment trials, installations and commissioning projects.
- Occasionally supporting installations and service work outside the UK.
- Following NSC and customer Health & Safety procedures at all times.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Experience installing, repairing, servicing or maintaining industrial compressed air equipment.
- Strong mechanical engineering experience.
- Basic electrical fault-finding capability.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical and pneumatic faults.
- Comfortable working independently at customer sites.
- Good practical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read technical manuals and engineering drawings.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Fully conversant with Health & Safety requirements and safe working practices.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel throughout the UK.
- Flexibility to work overtime when required.
- Willingness to occasionally travel abroad for training, installation and commissioning work.
Desirable
- Experience in one or more of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Rotary screw compressors
- Piston compressors
- High-pressure compressors
- PSA nitrogen generators
- Compressed air dryers and filtration
- Oxygen analysers and nitrogen purity measurement
- Flow, pressure and temperature instrumentation
- PLC/HMI controlled machinery
- Modbus or industrial communication systems
- Variable speed drives
- Pneumatic systems
- Vacuum equipment
- Pressure vessels and high-pressure systems
- Industrial pipework installation
- Written Schemes of Examination / Pressure Systems Safety Regulations awareness
- Electrical qualifications, compressor manufacturer training or other recognised engineering qualifications would also be advantageous.

Working Pattern
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Work Location: Primarily field-based / on the road.
The role will involve regular travel to customer sites throughout the UK, with occasional travel overseas for training, installation and commissioning projects.
Candidates based in the Midlands are preferred due to the field-based nature of the position, although applications from other locations will be considered.
