About Viper Applied Science

Viper Applied Science develops advanced computational software for modelling extreme events, including explosions, blast loading and structural response. Our software is used internationally by engineers, scientists and organisations working across defence, security, civil engineering and industrial safety.

We are a small technical team, which means the person joining us will have the opportunity to work directly on new numerical methods and take them from research ideas through to production software used by customers around the world.

The role

We are looking for a Computational Scientist to join our team in Aberdour, Scotland.

The role sits at the intersection of computational science, numerical methods and software development. You will develop new algorithms for our simulation software, investigate and validate numerical methods, implement them in production code, and help turn research concepts into practical engineering tools.

This would suit someone with a strong background in computational physics or engineering who enjoys both understanding the underlying science and implementing it in code.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
