Senior Computational Scientist
Level: Advisor, Individual Contributor
Summary: The Senior Computational Scientist is an expert in developing innovative bioinformatics algorithms and pipelines and prototyping data analysis solutions for the early R&D phase. As an advisor level, the individual interacts with internal and external stakeholders to design, present, and formalize key concepts and solutions, adopting a technical lead role in the discussion, planning, execution, and interpretation of the related work.
This work shapes the product development direction that NeoGenomics will undertake and influences the future generations of diagnostics and cancer management. To this purpose, this role works closely with the assay development team, the broader Bioinformatics and Software team, and all functional areas involved in specific projects.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of novel methodologies and algorithms.
- Perform computational analysis from new and custom assay prototypes (e.g., NGS-based assays).
- Provide innovative in-silico solutions to investigate or interpret existing and novel data, using internal or external data sources.
- Provide first implementation of Bioinformatics pipeline to aid initial product investigation.
- Contribute to the Company's competitiveness in developing cutting-edge technology.
- Serve as an advisor for the organization's assessment of innovative technologies in cancer diagnostics.
- Provide expert technical guidance internally and externally to all stakeholders, including discussions with the PMO, BD, and legal departments concerning the creation and assessment of new technologies.
- Stay up to date on technological advances and industry trends.
- Drive overall company growth and profitability via innovative product creations.

Additional Responsibilities:
- All other duties as assigned.
Position Objectives
- Contribute to the proposal of new cancer diagnostic approaches by playing a pioneering and cross-functional role with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the generation of insights from related literature/conferences/webinars and from competitors/market analysis.
- Supports development and production teams in challenging scenarios.
- Communicates effectively with all levels of staff across NeoGenomics' global sites.
- Adheres to NeoGenomics Laboratories core values, safety, compliance, and Company policies and procedures.
Education:
- PhD in the field of computational biology/bioinformatics, or significant experience in that space. Industry exposure in the R&D setting advantageous.
Experience
- Proficiency with scientific programming (e.g., R or Python) with a focus on solving problems and providing solutions (Essential).
- Significant (8+ years) experience in Bioinformatics (Essential).
- Experience in supervising project execution for the creation of products/algorithms as a computational technical lead (Essential).
- Proven track record in creating algorithms, pipelines, or custom analytical solutions (Essential).
- Hands-on experience with the analysis and interpretation of large-scale clinical, biological/omics, or drug data sets, with a preference for NGS/genomic/transcriptomics data (Essential).
- Proven track record of creating best-in-class diagnostic product (Desired).
- Experience in working with workflow management systems for pipelines prototyping (Desired).
- Experience in developing software/scripts for distributed computing, especially cloud, preferentially for computational biology applications (Desired).
