Role: CAD Design Engineer - Data Centres
Location: nr. Morley, Yorks
Employment: Permanent
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 + Benefits
We are working with a specialist connectivity and fibre infrastructure business delivering complex network solutions across enterprise, colocation and hyperscale data centre environments.
Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced CAD Design Engineer to join their Leeds-based team, supporting the design and delivery of high-performance physical network infrastructure for major data centre projects across the UK and Europe.
This is not simply a 2D drafting position. The successful candidate will need to understand data centre connectivity infrastructure and translate technical requirements, surveys and project information into accurate, buildable design packages for use by clients and installation teams.
What you'll be doing
- Producing detailed CAD drawings for data centre connectivity and fibre infrastructure projects
- Developing floorplans showing equipment locations, containment routes and network infrastructure
- Producing detailed rack elevations, cabinet layouts and equipment arrangements
- Developing fibre and copper connectivity drawings, schematics and associated design documentation
- Producing installation drawings and construction-ready design packages for site delivery teams
- Updating drawings throughout the project lifecycle, including revisions, redlines and final as-built documentation
- Working from client specifications, site surveys, architectural drawings and technical information
- Coordinating with Project Managers, engineers and installation teams to ensure designs accurately reflect site requirements
- Reviewing designs for accuracy, constructability and compliance with project standards
- Maintaining drawing registers, revision control and associated technical documentation
- Supporting the development of standard drawing templates, details and design processes
- Working across multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and drawing quality

What we're looking for

- Strong AutoCAD experience within a technical engineering or infrastructure environment
- Previous experience producing detailed floorplans, rack elevations and construction/installation drawings
- Experience within structured cabling, fibre, telecoms, ICT or data centre infrastructure would be highly desirable
- An understanding of how physical network infrastructure is installed and operates, rather than purely CAD drafting experience
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, surveys, mark-ups and construction drawings
- Understanding of cabinets, racks, containment and fibre/copper infrastructure
- Strong attention to detail and document/revision control
- Ability to work closely with engineering and project delivery teams
- Comfortable taking technical information and developing it into clear, accurate and practical design documentation
