Based in a fully air-conditioned manufacturing facility in Nottingham, the company uses advanced 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC machining technology, including ultra-precision KERN machining centres, to produce complex components to tight tolerances. Supported by modern CAD/CAM software, CNC CMMs, CNC vision inspection, and full digital traceability, WLR ensures quality, accuracy, and repeatability on every project. Its capabilities span high-precision milling and turning, prototype to medium-batch production, precision inspection, and complete project management, including specialist coatings and finishes. With a strong engineering heritage and a focus on trusted partnerships, WLR is committed to solving complex manufacturing challenges and delivering dependable components.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Programmer/Setter role based at WLR Precision Engineering’s facility in Nottingham. The CNC Programmer/Setter will create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for milling and turning operations using technical drawings and CAD/CAM data to achieve precise, repeatable results. Day-to-day responsibilities include setting and proving out CNC machines, selecting tooling and workholding, performing test runs, and adjusting offsets to maintain tight tolerances and surface finishes. The role involves collaborating with engineers and quality teams to resolve machining issues, support process improvements, and ensure components meet specification, inspection, and delivery requirements. The CNC Programmer/Setter will also be expected to follow safety procedures, maintain equipment and work areas, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the production environment.

- Ability to interpret and apply technical drawings and engineering documentation for CNC machining operations.
- Strong CNC Programming skills, including experience with CAD/CAM software and generating programs for complex components.
- Hands-on Machining and Milling experience, including setting, operating, and optimizing CNC machines for precision work.
- General Programming capability for editing, troubleshooting, and refining CNC programs on the shop floor.
- Experience working in a high-precision, quality-focused manufacturing environment, preferably in aerospace or similar sectors.
- Understanding of measurement techniques, inspection processes, and tolerance control using relevant metrology equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately under time and quality constraints.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams.
- Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in machining, CNC programming, or mechanical engineering is highly beneficial.
