About the Opportunity
A leading global technology and research organisation is looking for a senior technical expert to join its advanced computing research team in Cambridge.
This is a highly strategic role focused on identifying the next generation of computing technologies and helping shape long-term R&D direction. The position is suited to someone with deep technical expertise in computer architecture, AI computing, high-performance computing or related areas, combined with a strong understanding of emerging academic and industry trends.
Unlike a traditional engineering role, this position combines technical depth with technology strategy, external research collaboration and ecosystem engagement. The successful candidate will work closely with international R&D teams while building relationships with leading universities, research institutes, startups, technology companies and investment communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse long-term challenges and emerging opportunities across advanced computing and AI technologies.
- Identify important technology trends, breakthrough research directions and leading technical resources across the global computing ecosystem.
- Work closely with international R&D teams to help define short-term and long-term technology roadmaps.
- Conduct technical deep dives into emerging technologies and assess their potential impact on future computing platforms.
- Provide strategic insight across areas such as processor architecture, AI computing, memory, interconnect, accelerators and high-performance computing.
- Identify potential opportunities for academic collaboration, technology partnerships, investment or acquisition.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with leading universities, research laboratories, startups and technology partners.
- Attend and engage with major academic conferences, industry events and research communities.
- Translate emerging academic research and technical developments into commercially and strategically relevant opportunities.
- Support senior stakeholders with technical insight and recommendations relating to future computing technology.

Technical Areas of Interest
Candidates should have strong expertise in at least one of the following areas:
- CPU, GPU, NPU or DPU architecture
- AI accelerators
- Computer architecture
- Memory systems and memory hierarchy
- Interconnect and Network-on-Chip technologies
- High-performance computing
- Cluster computing
- AI servers and HPC servers
- Hardware/software co-design
- Heterogeneous computing
- Accelerator architecture
- Advanced processor technologies
Experience across multiple areas would be particularly valuable.
Candidate Profile
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong preference for candidates with a PhD and an established research background.
- Deep technical expertise within advanced computing, processor architecture, AI computing or a closely related field.
- Strong understanding of current and emerging trends within computing technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly understand new technical areas through academic papers, conferences and engagement with technical experts.
- Strong academic or industrial research background.
- Track record of scientific publications at recognised conferences or journals.
- Strong analytical and technical insight capabilities.
- Comfortable engaging with senior researchers, professors, engineers, technology executives and external partners.
- Ability to operate effectively across both technical and strategic discussions.
- Professional working proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese.

Preferred Background
Particularly relevant candidates may currently or previously have worked within:
- Major semiconductor or processor companies
- Leading AI or cloud technology companies
- Advanced computing research organisations
- Top-tier university research laboratories
- CPU/GPU/accelerator architecture teams
- AI infrastructure or HPC organisations
Candidates with experience from globally recognised technology companies or leading universities will be particularly relevant.
