KOIOS
KOIOS is a Winchester-based company building a universal semantic layer for industrial product data. Our concept dictionary includes over 400,000 concepts drawn from ISO, IEC, and other international standards, and we hold IRDI Authority status — meaning we can issue the globally unique identifiers that make machine-readable master data possible.
The problem we solve is deceptively simple. Two systems can hold the same physical part and describe it in ways neither can reconcile: different names, different units, different assumptions. Our dictionary gives every concept a definition and an identifier that any system can resolve. Without that foundation, AI applied to industrial data produces confident answers built on incompatible inputs.
Our founder, Peter Eales, is the project leader of both ISO 8000-110:2021 and ISO 29002:2026 — international standards for exchanging characteristic data. Very few places let a graduate work this close to the source.
KOIOS was founded in 2017, and the platform is in commercial deployment with enterprise clients today. We are contracted to a global industrial distributor to rationalise their product data model and onboard supplier catalogues across thousands of manufacturers — a programme already running across multiple workstreams, against a catalogue taking on hundreds of new product classes every month.
We are building the team accordingly. This is one of several roles opening across the dictionary, the graph and the platform, as we increase the pace at which we deliver.
The role
You will be a Dictionary Manager: the person who takes published vocabularies and client data and turns them into properly constructed, properly identified, properly sourced concepts in our dictionary.

The work runs across three areas.

Building the dictionary. Extracting terminology from published standards and reference data libraries — ISO vocabularies, the IEC Common Data Dictionary, industry libraries such as CFIHOS and ETIM — and preparing them for load. In practice, this means writing and adapting Python to pull structured data out of inconsistent sources, checking the output against the original document, assigning concept types and classification codes, and running the pre-load quality gates.

You will report to the CTO, who approves all concepts entering the global dictionary. You will author and verify; he approves. That separation is deliberate and is part of how we hold our standards credentials.
What we are looking for
Essential
- A degree in computer science, AI, data science, linguistics, engineering, information science or a related field — or equivalent demonstrable ability.
- Working Python. You should be comfortable writing a script to reshape a messy spreadsheet or scrape a structured web source, and reading someone else's code well enough to extend it.
- Comfort with structured data and databases — MySQL, and the ideas behind relational modelling.
- Genuine precision with language. Much of this job is deciding whether two sentences mean the same thing, and being able to say why.
- The disposition to check. Our work is only worth anything if it is right, and a great deal of it is verified by someone reading the source document and comparing.
- The right to work in the UK, and the ability to work from our Winchester office. We are not able to sponsor visas for this role.

Desirable, not required
- Git and GitHub, or any experience of collaborative version control.
- Exposure to knowledge graphs, ontologies, taxonomies or vectorised embeddings.
- A second language, or any background in translation or terminology.
- Familiarity with pandas, openpyxl, or similar data-wrangling libraries.

Location and working pattern
This is an on-site role based at The Pump House, Garnier Road, Winchester. Applicants should be expected to work in the Winchester office.
