Job Title: Concrete Batcher / Ready-Mix Plant Operator
Location: Uxbridge, West London
Salary: £17.00 – £22.00 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 5:00pm + Saturdays as required
The Role
We are recruiting for a Concrete Batcher / Ready-Mix Plant Operator to join a busy ready-mix concrete operation based in West London, with occasional cover at a sister site less than 10 miles away.
This is an excellent opportunity for either an experienced Concrete Batcher or somebody already working within ready-mix concrete, aggregates, or a similar production/plant environment who has the right attitude and wants to progress into batching.
Previous batching experience is advantageous but isn't essential. Training can be provided.
We're much more interested in finding somebody who is proactive, confident, switched-on, and genuinely interested in understanding the production process than simply somebody who happens to have the right job title.
What You'll Be Doing
Working from the plant control room, you'll help control the production of ready-mix concrete using computerized batching systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing scheduled and booked concrete orders
- Moving booked work through the production and batching process
- Operating and monitoring computerized batching systems
- Monitoring batches as they're produced to ensure the correct mix is being delivered
- Making appropriate minor adjustments during production where required
- Working closely with Shippers to coordinate production, deliveries, and drivers
- Communicating confidently with drivers regarding loads and production
- Working alongside Concrete Technicians to ensure batches meet required quality standards
- Carrying out appropriate quality checks on your own work
- Monitoring production throughout the shift and identifying potential issues early
- Maintaining accurate production information and records
- Taking ownership of the quality and consistency of the product being produced

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
