Maryculter House is a historic 40-bedroom hotel located on the banks of the River Dee in Aberdeenshire, just 15 minutes from Aberdeen International Airport and close to the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route. Dating back to the 13th century, the property features original period details and a distinctive heritage linked to the Knights Templar, the Jacobites, the Gordon family, and even survivors of the Titanic. Its scenic riverside setting offers a memorable backdrop for conferences, events, and celebrations. Maryculter House combines rich history with modern hospitality, providing guests with a unique experience in one of Aberdeenshire’s most picturesque locations.
Role Description
The Conference and Events Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at Maryculter House in Aberdeenshire. The role involves overseeing the planning, coordination, and delivery of conferences, weddings, corporate functions, and special events from initial inquiry through to post-event follow-up. The manager will work closely with clients to understand their requirements, prepare proposals, manage bookings, and ensure all logistical details are organised, including room set-ups, catering, audio-visual needs, and accommodation.

- Managing event timelines
- Supervising on-the-day operations
- Coordinating with internal teams and external suppliers
- Monitoring budgets
- Maintaining high standards of service and guest satisfaction
The role also includes supporting sales efforts, contributing to event marketing activities, and identifying opportunities to enhance the hotel’s conference and events offering.
Qualifications
- Experience in conference and event planning, coordination, and on-site management within hospitality or a similar environment.
- Strong client relationship skills, including needs assessment, proposal creation, negotiation, and post-event follow-up.
- Ability to manage event timelines, budgets, and logistical details with excellent organisational and multitasking skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities, with confidence in liaising with guests, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Leadership skills to supervise event staff, delegate tasks, and ensure smooth event delivery.
- Proficiency with event management systems, booking software, and standard office applications.
- Knowledge of food and beverage service standards and basic audio-visual requirements for meetings and events.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays in line with event schedules.
- Previous experience in a hotel or heritage venue is highly beneficial.
- Relevant qualification in hospitality, events management, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
