Job Information

Job Title: Conference and Events Sales Executive

Salary: Dependent on experience.

Site: Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, Hillsborough, Sheffield S6 1SW.

Working Hours:
40 hours per week. Primarily worked Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required to meet the needs of the business, including event days.


Overall Purpose of Job

Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is one of English football’s oldest football clubs, with a decorated history, passionate supporter base and under new ownership is once again aiming to build relationships with both fans and the wider business community. As a club we are moving fast both on and off the pitch, and we are focussing on strengthening our conference and events sales, building strong relationships and maximising business opportunities to position the venue as a market leader for events in South Yorkshire.

As a Conference and Events Sales Executive, you’ll be at the forefront of driving new business, developing key accounts and delivering memorable client experiences. Your focus will be on building strong connections, delivering results and ensuring every client interaction represents SWFC’s values of quality, service and excellence.


General Description – Task Related

  • Proactively sell and promote all conference, banqueting and event facilities at Hillsborough Stadium
  • Develop full calendar of annual events for Hillsborough Stadium to maximise all opportunities.
  • Achieve revenue targets by developing and delivering a focused sales strategy.
  • Actively generate new business leads, build a strong pipeline and convert opportunities into sales.
  • Manage local key accounts and grow client relationships to encourage repeat business.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with conference and event booking agents to generate new business opportunities and increase bookings at Hillsborough Stadium.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, from first enquiry to post-event follow-up.
  • Stay ahead of market trends with competitor analysis and local market insight.
  • Respond to incoming phone and email inquiries promptly, negotiate rates, and maximise revenue through upselling.
  • Conduct site visits for potential clients and build relationships to encourage repeat business
  • Issue accurate contracts and invoices, track sales targets, and maintain venue management software

General:

  • Always professionally represent SWFC
  • Adhere to SWFC policies and procedures at all times.
  • Adhere to Safeguarding policies and practices reporting any concerns to the Club Designated Safeguarding Officer
  • Support a culture where everyone is treated fairly and with respect in line with the Club’s EDI Code of Practice and Equality policy.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by your Line Manager

Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record in proactive sales within the conference, events and hospitality sector, with experience of driving venue bookings and growing event revenue.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication.
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Confident in using Microsoft Office and CRM systems (Salesforce experience is a plus).
  • Commercially savvy with a passion for customer service.
  • Experience working within a sports stadium or large-scale event venue (desirable).

Qualifications & Training Requirements

Essential:

  • 5 GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent (including maths and English)
  • Full proficiency with Microsoft office suite

Desirable:

  • Degree or Equivalent
  • Previous sales or relationship management qualifications
